Ira Mathur is an India-born Trinidadian multimedia journalist. Her memoir, Love the Dark Days (Peepal Tree Press), won the 2023 OCM Bocas Prize for Non-Fiction and was shortlisted for the overall prize. It was also named one of the best biographies of 2022 by the UK Guardian. In March 2024, the South Asian rights to Mathur’s memoir were acquired by Speaking Tiger Press, one of India’s top independent publishers, and it was launched across India on 5 June, 2024.

Mathur holds diplomas in creative writing from the University of East Anglia/Guardian and The Faber Academy. She is the longest-running columnist for the Trinidad Guardian and has freelanced for the UK Guardian and the BBC. Mathur has degrees in literature (Trent University, Canada) and law (University of London) and a Master’s in International Journalism from City University, London.
